Better Days Behavioral Health Services offers therapy for children, adults, couples, and families. We Work with clients to develop an individualized plan to address the needs of the client and family. We can then work on tools and skills to help in daily life.

Meet the Founders

Laura Janikowski, MSW, LCSW


My name is Laura Janikowski and I’m the founder of Better Days Behavioral Health. I  have been working with individuals and families for more than fifteen years. I graduated from Arizona State University with my Masters in Social Work.  I specialize in mood disorders, anger management, anxiety and trauma. I am trained in and utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy,  Sand Tray, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and EMDR.  I work with children as young as 4, adolescents and adults. I love the resiliency of the human spirit and hope to help each client find tools that work for them. I am also an AZBBHE board approved clinical supervisor. I enjoy building relationships that support clinicians in professional development and ethical practice to meet their clients needs. 

Jennifer Edwards, MC, NCC, LPC


I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have been practicing for over 11 years. I have worked with children, adolescents and adults for over 20 years building on strengths and overcoming challenges. I work with individuals to address depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, grief and loss, behavioral and emotional disturbances as well as many other life challenges.

I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as other modalities which focus on reaching individual goals. Using what works best for each and every client we will develop a plan for success.  Focusing on the client’s strengths and interests and using a variety of strategies, most clients find they are heard and are able to focus on their needs. Clients feel empowered when able to selectively guide their treatment. 

In addition, I provide clinical oversight and training to our clinicians. Empowering other professionals to attain their professional goals and experience to continue to serve and heal our community.

Krystle Stempien, LMSW


I am a licensed social worker in Arizona and graduated from ASU with my Masters in Social Work.  I am committed to providing therapy to children, teens, adults, couples and families that is person centered and strengths based.  I specialize in working with young adults and teens.  I use the modalities of CBT, DBT, and evidence-based approaches to trauma.  My goal is to ensure that the client or family has specific tools to utilize in daily life. I utilize motivational interviewing, problem solving skills, challenging perspectives, engaging in activities, art, and/or play to personalize the therapeutic process. I believe that the patient is the specialist on their presenting issue.  I am honored to have the opportunity to assist and guide in ways that work for each individual, at any point in their journey in life. 

Stacy Wimmer, LMSW


I graduated from California State University Northridge with a Masters in Social Work. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills, Play Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and other modalities based on individual needs. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship issues, divorce, or other life stressors, my goal is to assist you in building coping skills, positive relationships, and emotional wellness, to empower you to meet your goals and move forward with hope and healing.  

Carma Abeita, LMSW


I graduated from Arizona State University with a Master’s in Social Work. I have worked with children of all ages, adults and elderly for over 20 years.  I have worked in three Tribal Communities.  I work with children and families, with a focus on attachment, connection, anxiety, communication, parenting skills and family dynamics. I utilize grounding, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy and evidence based trauma interventions. I enjoy working with clients in making that positive change and feeling empowered. I hope to join you on your healing journey.

Brittany Mirasoul, LMSW


I am a licensed social worker in Arizona, I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of New England. I have 10 years of experience working with children, adults and seniors helping them overcome difficult life stressors, including grief and loss, trauma, anxiety and depression. I utilize various evidenced based treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy, Solution Focused and Crisis Interventions. It is my goal to work with you to provide you with tools to help you manage difficult periods of life and transitions. It is my belief that each individual has their own gifts and strengths and together we will build upon those strengths to achieve your goals.

Jenna Stoner, LAC


I am a Phoenix native and received my Masters in Professional Counseling from GCU. I am passionate about working with individuals and supporting them through different struggles that can feel overwhelming, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, work-life balance, and life transitions. I believe in each person’s individuality. I find using multiple treatment techniques to be the most effective which can include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy. I look forward to helping you meet personal goals in life and providing a safe, open space for you to grow and thrive.

Xiaoxuan (Ellen) Zhu, LAC


I am a licensed associate counselor and earned my Master of Counseling degree from Arizona State University. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults. I utilize an integrative approach, including Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Trauma Informed Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Self-Compassion. I strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for clients’ healing journey. I look forward to working with you. 


James Weisbecker, LAC


I earned a Master of Science in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University. I am EMDR trained, trauma informed and use other modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). I assist individuals of all backgrounds, from young adults to seniors. My passion is working with those suffering from trauma, anxiety, depression and grief. I am committed to treatment that supports each person in pursuing their goals while embracing their life values.

Sonya Davis, LMSW


I received my Masters of Social Work from Arizona State University.  I have been working with families and children for over a decade. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing  methods, as well as other models, to meet individual and family needs.  A majority of my work has been to address  anxiety, attachment, anger management and grief and loss. I enjoy working with kids and families to help engage and create a stronger unit. I look forward to working with you.
